The Ultimate Beginner Quilt Class
What You’ll Learn:
- Accurate cutting and piecing
- How to read quilt patterns
- Seam allowance tips & pressing tricks
- A variety of piecing techniques
- Simple appliqué
- Adding sashing, borders, and finishing touches
Each week, you’ll create a different block in this sampler-style quilt, giving you hands-on experience with a variety of quilting techniques.
This class is perfect for:
- Brand new quilters
- Anyone wanting a strong refresher
- Quilters looking to build a solid foundation
By the end of the course, you’ll have:
- A completed quilt top
- A toolkit of essential quilting skills
- The confidence to take on more complex patterns
Class Details:
- Schedule: 6 Saturdays, starting November 8, November 22, December 6, 2025 January 10, January 24, February 7, 2026
- Time: 10am to 2pm
- Instructor: Annik (Skye Thistle Quilts)
- Skill Level: Beginner
- Requirement: Students must be able to thread their own machine and wind a bobbin before class. (If you need a hand with this, reach out to arrange a quick private lesson ahead of time!)
- Fabric: Not needed for the first class—we’ll go over fabric selection and preparation together.
Supply List:
- 1/4" foot for your machine
- 45mm rotary cutter
- Creative Grids 6 1/2" × 24" acrylic ruler
- Creative Grids 6 1/2" × 6 1/2" acrylic ruler
- Quilting pins (ultra-fine)
- Small scissors
- Seam ripper
- 80/12 sewing machine needles
- 24" × 18" self-healing cutting mat (not required in class but needed at home)
- Fabric starch
- Sewing machine in good working order (bring the owner’s manual)
- Quilting fabric
- Ultimate Beginner Quilt pattern
Optional (but not required for class):
- Creative Grids 12 1/2" square ruler
